Chhapra: Posed as IAS officer to meet DM, fake youth exposed and arrested

A fake IAS officer has been arrested in Chhapra, Bihar. The youth, posing as an IAS officer, met with several officials including the SP and then went to meet the DM of Chhapra, IAS Vaibhav Shrivastava. According to sources, the DM then asked him about his batch, and he claimed to be an IAS officer of the 2022 batch. He said he was the Municipal Commissioner in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, after which the District Magistrate asked him more questions and his fraud was exposed.

The youth, pretending to be a fake IAS officer, spoke with the DM for about 20 minutes. During this time, the District Magistrate sensed something was wrong and asked for his ID. The accused got nervous and later, upon strict questioning, confessed that he was neither an IAS officer nor held any government position. The individual was identified as Ritesh Kumar Pandit, a resident of Basadhi village in Chhapra district. A case has been registered against the accused and he has been arrested. Employees of the Collectorate said that six months earlier as well, this youth had come twice and met the previous District Magistrate.

According to information, on Monday (February 2) at 3 PM, the youth arrived at the Chhapra Collectorate. He identified himself to the orderly stationed there as Ritesh Kumar Pandit, son of Krishna Pandit, resident of Basadhi village, Chhapra Mufassil police station. The youth claimed that he was an IAS officer posted in Meerut and needed to meet District Magistrate Vaibhav Shrivastava for some important work. Seeing his confidence and demeanor, the orderly sent the youth to the DM’s office.

Suspecting something, the DM asked for documents
He spoke with the DM for over 20 minutes, during which his language, knowledge, and behavior seemed quite suspicious. The District Magistrate began to suspect him and then asked him to show an official identity card or service-related documents. Then he got scared. He did not respond. When he was questioned strictly, he admitted that he was neither an IAS officer nor employed in any government position.
